I've gone into System Preferences -> Sound and adjusted volume all the way up for the internal microphone. When I patch my RCA cables into a dongle that combines them for the headphone jack, Audacity doesn't register any volume. Unfortunately that sound card is monaural. I am able to get a recording working with an external sound card that connects to my Macbook via USB. I have a MacBook Air 2015 running macOS Catalina version 10.15.7 (19H2).
